Everytime I pay a tax, I also pay a huge educational cess…. this sum was promised to be used in spreading education to the country’s 1/3 of the population which cannot read or write.
But here is the ground reality
Since the situation has not improved since 2004-2005 and has only worsen since then…. Where did my money go?
Don’t tell me it went in creating new IITs, IIMs, or AIIMS with the sole purpose is to create an army of professionals who would pay taxes and help US Government reduce its Social Security deficit. Because… we have not created a new one either in the past couple of decades.

And he increases the stt on senior citizens and all to 3% – the rules are taxpayers accountable
tax spenders unaccountable
mostly it went into the OBC quota to pay for the extra seats !
This is a very sad state of affairs. We can actually use Right to Information here..but its a tedious process.
I always used to think why the politicians are giving away TVs and cable connections , but not improving the schools. The Govt. school teachers shd also be heavily punished if they are not true to their work.
This is indeed very sad. Another reality I want to throw light on is that Tamilnadu govt alone spent 23 crore rupees as fees to the lawyers for the Cauvery water dispute. Nothing has moved so far. Most of this amount has been paid to small time advocates, so you know where it actually went.This is where the tax payers money is spent.
@sree..
thats because jaya owns jayatv and DMK owns sun.. so this is all to increase their viewership.
@pr3na…
i always thought govt had lawyers in their payroll.. partly because of the number of disputes they need to fight and also because of the legal obligation that if somebody cannot afford representation… the govt will have to provide for it.
@prax…
is the STT on senior citizen higher than what u and I pay? if it is the same value… then I think it not that big an issue… considering that there are so many tax sops for an indian investing in stock market.
about obc seats… attending college is like reading a library book. everybody who wants to pursue any degree should have a right of to attend the school (its a different matter that its the responsibility of the VC/Dean to ensure that an unworthy student does not get a degree)..
u dont however understand that senior citizens have gone through the worst tax times , did u know the tax rates then? their corpus was shrunk- plus the big returns of 12-16% that they were accustomed are all but disappeared while pensions are low cost of living has escalated – it is kinda sad! the way they are treated
i am anti reservation and seat allotment is not in the hands of the dean but the govt and trustees leaving little scope for good middle class students from forward castes, who miss out by a percent or 2 while bcs and obcs rich just parade their certificates while gettin down from their big cars with a 50% or less to gain entry to courses.
dude they r lucky to be born and retired in india… if by any stroke of luck they happened to be be in Japan or some other developed country then we could not even have this conversation.
back to the saner response….
if u can find a plan for me whose returns are equivalent to the pension scheme which the grey men enjoy (i.e. zero risk inflation adjusted pension scheme)… then I am with you on all the governmental subsidies and tax sops you want for them….
PS: inflation is computed on the cost of living index… rather than consumer price index.
ur arguement beats me
japanese had great salaries – most indians didnt
plus most other countries have a social sec net and public health system which we dont
and which govt retiree got a zero risk inflation adjusted pension scheme ?
not all of them worked in tax and excise depts to have big other incomes..
and who decides the cost of living index?
and does it really reflect the real cost of living in a city like mumbai?
or is based on govt approved price list that is rarely reflective of reality?
sad thing ie even most seniors point out is on one hand they have decreased the senior rebate by removing std dedn on pension and 80 l rebate and keep on adding to service tax net but worse the fm and the mantris get a pay rise due to increase in costs!
jap population is aging and aging real fast…. in a couple of years they expect a 1/5 of their population would be retired.
in other countries… the baby bloomers have started to retire… luckily in india the youth far exceed the aging so the problem is decades away.
//and which govt retiree got a zero risk inflation adjusted pension scheme ?//
all of them (unless u were hired in the last decade or so)
each year the pension amount increases as the newer and newer pay commission reports gets implemented. my grandfather earns 3 times more pension than the last wage he drew…. there is no instrument available to me which can even remotely match this.
//and who decides the cost of living index?
and does it really reflect the real cost of living in a city like mumbai?//
yes. whatever it takes to maintain the current lifestyle.
//sad thing ie even most seniors point out is on one hand they have decreased the senior rebate by removing std dedn on pension and 80 l rebate and keep on adding to service tax net but worse the fm and the mantris get a pay rise due to increase in costs!//
dude 99% of them have no business but to curse and criticize the present scenario. the tax rates have come down… drastically from as high as 97% to 33.4%… the senior citizens not getting SD???? their tax slabs start at a higher levels. so its not called sd… but the amount of taxes have gone down.
//not all of them worked in tax and excise depts to have big other incomes..//
i am not talking about corruption either.
your tax money is going for the expenses of television sets for people who voted karunanithi
yes , Bachodi. And we are the ones who dont watch those blasted channels.
Sad. But I’m surprised the government actually carried out such a survey and that the findings are being made public.
RTI… it has done wonders for the country
Though the Goverment has brought plenty of scheme towards the development of education like SSA- education for all, we can still see differences between schools of Rural & city.
yes, in the city’s school, students are learning with the help of LCD,OHP and other advance technology but in rural…………?
education’s budget allocation where it goes…….?
@velmurugan….
Welcome to ENagar 🙂
I know sarva shiksha abhiyan has some really noble goals, but unfortunately very few steps r taken to achieve it.
and worse that even the people r complacent about the lack of primary education
