Indo-US Nuclear Deal

The scientist in India are plain stupid, but also lie and mislead. Thousands of crores are spend each year to fund their crazy research, yet their yeild is zero.
Tell me the last technology, invention, product we developed. ( I am not talking about opening 2000 year old Veda and listing out its achievements)
We tried building cryogenic engine (30 year old technology) it still has its problems.
gas turbine engine ( 60 year old technology) still no success.
tank (WW1 technology)… all we are able to create is something which cannot tolerate water logging of Kutch. will freeze/turn brittle in the snow of north, whose rubber parts will melt in deserts of Rajasthan.

The only success story of Indian scientist is reverse engineering. They reverse engineered Tetra-Pack packaging to create a ready-to-eat food products. etc.
This can be excused, but telling lies and misinformation can never be.

India has absolutely no Uranium. The Jhankand mines are almost depleted and the protests by tribals has made it impossible to mine it. The condition was so bad that 6 months ago, the moment the first draft of the Nuclear deal was signed, we had to clandestinely impost huge quantities from Russia just to prevent out existing plants from shutting down. But no scientist will ever mention about it in his protests against the deal. If this deal does not happen what are you guys going to do?

India imports most of the good quality coal. Yet you fill all the text books saying we have the largest reserves of coal.

India (Kerela) has huge reserves of Thorium. But Scientists are too incompetent to use it viably.
Oil prices are rising, coal produces too much smoke, we are not being able to import gas…… how do you think we are going to produce electricity???

If you oppose an Idea, suggest an alternative plan…. Else keep your mouth shut.

I don’t know if you can call our scientists stupid. Indian scientists work at ISRO, don’t they? But they definitely seem to lack foresight and are unable to see the bigger picture. And they are afraid of losing control (funds) which till now was theirs. The DRDO is the worst of them all. They eat up funds and produce absolutely no results. I respect Manmohan Singh for having stood through all opposition to this deal. I believe it’s gonna help us more than the US.

as per your definition, Indian scientists
1) lack foresight
2) do not know what the bigger picture is
3) eat up funds and limited resources while producing no output..
4) tell lies/mislead public and are control freaks
Now isn’t it the characteristic of stupidity?

Regarding benefits….
As I just mentioned in another post… After the sign of the deal, india ended its isolation and within days signed 2 pacts… one to get uranium (which we never had) and the other to get technology (4 reactors). Both deals were signed with Russia… and USA got absolutely zero kickbacks….. so where is the question of benefit to USA?

Stupid = lack intelligence, then no they aren’t stupid

Stupid = making bad decisions, then you could call they stupid.

Telling lies, and being control freaks does not make them stupid. They are intelligent people trying to manipulate others to get to their goal.

Regarding benefits, I was agreeing with what you had to say. Even I believe it’ll help us more than the US.

@nirav
although this deal has not resulted in an actual ToT from USA, but it has enabled us to buy it from other countries esp. Russia.
also this deal signs a deathblow to the already dying and discriminatory NPT

roshan is factually wrong
all countries have their white elephants
america had also got problems be it their battle rifle m16 in vietnam or the patton tank or the planes, but transparency has made sure they corrected them thats, why they have 2 companies competing..for every acquisition, sadly we cant do that
we have the arjun tank project and the lca tejas plane which is half a white elephant
the biggest problem here were the congress govts which chickened out under american pressure, or underfunded some or did not pull the plug like in case of the arjun
but we have done great in ballistic missiles and satallite launch vehicles
and in failures we have successes , even arjun had its spinoffs in other fields

//but we have done great in ballistic missiles and satallite launch vehicles

i will beg to differ about ballistic missiles.
1) indian missiles are primarily based on liquid propellants… which although reduces the complexity and the increased the accuracy but makes it a poor military weapon…. we need solid propellants which are easier to carry, arm/disarm and do not require us to carry an entire battery or cryogenic lab and tanks around (which are easy to spot)

first we didnt import missiles from china and korea to get a big leap
neither did we hand over the non exploded chinese the tomahawk cruise missiles to chinese to get babur
all countries that developed missiles started from liquid and progressed to solid
the people know of the negatives of liquid
what is the agni series and prithvi 3?
tell me why are we stopping now
why not develop an icbm? is it communist pressure?

what i say/feel is that the biggest problem india faces now is not the availability of technology but that of the nuclear fuel… and this deal comes with it a lifetime guarantee of fuel for all civilian reactors (for military reactors we need to mine/smuggle our own fuel).

reprocessing…. it is important but think it like that… we do not own the fuel.. its already imported… to the supplier has a right on the end use of these sensitive materials.

hampering of military nuclear program: only 35% of the current reactors are made civilian … and there is no restriction on making a dozen or 2 more military reactors.. so actually there is no threat..

this deal on its own is not important.. but i use it as an approval (which Manmohan Sigh obtained without any significant concessions) India can now use this deal to go to Australia to get the fuel.. then go to france/russia to get the technology and maybe any other country that meets our safety standards and gives us the best price

//first we didnt import missiles from china and korea to get a big leap//
big deal!!! see the V2 (which forms the heart of the russian scuds and the starting point of any american missile program) was developed 70 years ago. let not compare with the Pak… but the best in the world.

//all countries that developed missiles started from liquid and progressed to solid//
agreed… but indian solid propellant program is not doing that great.

//is it communist pressure?//
i agree… infact the article pointed in ur post also says that they represent China more than they do India…
their policies in WB is totally opposite to what they say/do in the center. i think they are a bunch of drugged hypocrites

i agree fully – we have shortage
plus the biggest plus is Australia which has tonnes of uranium might just blink with big daddy us approval else they dare not cause of Chinese fears !

but i just hope this leads to positives , cause hey the pakis , the rotten apples have benefited a lot, while we the honest country which literally handed americans substantial info on pak militancy , are left hi and dry.

indian solid propellant program is not doing that great.
we havent tested as much as russians or americans
we dont have that big a database to build precise models on computers be it in nuke field or missiles where probabilities of error multiply if inputs are less than precise

//Australia which has tonnes of uranium might just blink with big daddy//
EXACTLY… and that is the reason why I am all ga ga about this deal.

//while we the honest country which literally handed americans substantial info on pak militancy , are left hi and dry.//
as u urself said america has no ally just interests… currently they find ISI more useful in keeping their interests in Afgan… plus i think it is one of the few muslim country that can tolerate America… so it is helping it. if india wants to control militancy.. then we will have to do on our own,… we cannot hire mercenaries to protect our interest.
