ROFL

While watching Shrek, I was just thinking: “Aren’t the online life exactly like living in a animated fantasy?”
“Is internet for real, or is it some dream world?”
rofl
You type ROFL all the time on internet, but when was the last time you heard of someone literally “Rolling on the floor and laughing”?
In the safety of our cyber cafes, how often do you use expressions and words which you know you would have never said had you have met the person face to face in real life?

When you meet someone on the internet, exactly whom are you meeting?
1) the real real life him/her,
2) the person which the other person thinks he/she is,
3) the person what your acquaintance wants to be?
4) or what that other person wants to be?

I think Internet is a place which is similar to a dream, because you are what you want to be. Yet it is unique because now a dream is one man’s fantasy… while internet is a collaboration of the fantasy of a million souls.

In a way u can say , internet is a dream world
as vivid as Shrek…if not more

We may say ROTFL but not literally roll on
the floor , but once when I read something on the net
while having coffee I found it so funny, I
laughed so much that I choked and
spilled coffee all over myself :)) ..

Infact , in real life , how many times do we tell the
narrator what we actually feel ? atleast here we take
time to tell each other what we think.
Why shd there be a dbt whom we are meeting here?
Why dont we make an asessment of what the other
person is , what his/her views are and most of all see
if they have similar interests….the essence shd be
“am I enjoying talking or discussing things with this person”..

Here I think ppl are franker and bolder and
put out their thgts with less inhibition . Afterall in real
life there is so much need for diplomacy…
Here, the only thing that wld stop me from saying something
I want to wld be not to hurt anyone .

As for the kostens raised by u , I am not sure if we have
a seperate image for the net ….or unwillingly our real selves
take over our image….

But it is very true that the world of netizens is a fascinating one
and it brings immense pleasure interacting with them.

yups.. typically i do not like animation (not because i do not like it, but because i find it childish) but Shrek made me change my stance.

agreed, this has happened to me a couple of times also.

because we do not know if the person is for real. its just like dreams.. which are often miles away from a reality.

the problem is that a person could have 3-4 online identities … each with totally different traits…. he could be a student in one, professor in another…. a girl in one a guy in another… indian in one american in another… r u connecting with this identity or the real person?

so u mean to say.. in a few years if robots are able to initiate conversations, you will be ok in spending your life with it?

honestly I am scared of using my real name online… I am a tech geek in real life… but in E-Nagar I have not even written one word about technology.. is it MPD?

Net world is a dreamworld if you want it to be so. Or it can be real as well, again if you want it to be so. Its how you perceive it and with what attitude you interact over here. If one wants fantasy they align them self with it and if one wants things to be real he or she aligns with real things and projects as real as they are.

In real we feel may be around 10 times more things than what we say out loud. In net world we take time to capture those flashing momentary feelings and express it in words. Which also becomes available for many more persons to surf through those interactions to ponder on those and to relate themself.

i always was curious about fairy tales… but now i can live in one 🙂

wow… we single handedly removed the fear of public speaking/scrutiny.
I just love this place… as much as i love the movie Shrek

well for me this is one place where one can be truly themselves…u dont have to make other person feel good…as Sree commented in real life you have to be diplomatic…u cant ignore a person u dont like…and u cant share ur happiness with everyone around u coz more half the ppl will be jealous of ur happiness…

to download ur sorrow and upgrade ur mood, its nice to feel ROFL while sitting in front of window and peeping in the world 😉

As for me , I dont bother abt which split personality I am dealing with …just keep interacting
with one identity , and if there is consistency its fine….otherwise adios 🙂 Atleast at some point
of time , the real person has to take over the image 🙂

i read dilbert and C&H every day. but I try to limit my exposure to animation.

No..I have’nt read his books.
I watched a movie where a robot wants to be more and more human , and even marries
the daughter of the house…hmm..all said and done..the robot looked and sounded very
insecure in the movie.

movies can never capture the feel of a book… but ya issac asimov writes more about emotions then technology in his science fiction. so i am not surprised if the robot showed human like emotions.

the actual process of selecting unwanted elements from a group is ‘culling’…
but in reality they are picked out and done away with…though that is not what it means.

I feel Internet is the place where whatever our inner most wishes are.. they come true… in its own small way….
