WHO denies Taiwan’s representation

The first plague traveled round the globe in sea faring ships, today SARS travels in jets. If there is an epidemic in one part of the globe, its usually takes a couple of hours be spread to another.

So how should we curtail this globalization of Diseases?
By Banning Taiwan from becoming a part of WHO.

Apparently WHO and its members had excluded Taiwan in 1972. Lets guess the reason. Is it because:
1) Taiwan government seizes life saving drugs and sells it to the open market?
2) Taiwan is a no man land, and WHO lost several health workers in the insurgency?
3) Taiwanese government ill treats Doctors and Medical Personnels?

Well it was a trick question.
Taiwan has been repeatedly pleading WHO to start its operations and share valuable research and data with it. But WHO believes in “One China Policy”. It cannot afford to jeopardize its relationship with China in a mission to save the world from epidemic outbreaks.
Why can’t we keep politics away from such noble tasks?

Will India allow UN’s presence in Kashmir? (although issues are quite different)and so does China won’t allow WHO to assist Taiwan independently. Because it will send a message to the world that China is recognizing Taiwan’s sovereignty, which of course Chine never wishes to happen!

//so does China won’t allow WHO to assist Taiwan independently. Because it will send a message to the world that China is recognizing Taiwan’s sovereignty,//
exactly. 🙂 and that way it is only risking its citizen’s help. this game does not seem to help anybody.

what can we say… I remember Nehru’s foolish declaration 50 years ago in the UN…. “India will conduct a referendum in Kashmir and give people of J&K freedom to choose to which nation they want to join”…
a promise which we never kept and became a source of shame.

There are so many unresolved issues in the world and UN has handled them in a partisan manner. The very existence of 5 permanent members in the security council is unjust. They don’t deserve the veto power.
As far as the referendum on Kashmir is concerned there were some basic conditions attached to the referendum which were not followed and that was the reason for not holding the referendum. The main condition was that military presence of both the countries should not be there. None of the them followed it and the situation worsened. The fact is that both India and Pakistan are to blamed for the miseries of the Kashmiris.

actually people have started questioning the effectiveness of UN itself.
1) world bank has reduced itself to Bank of turkey.
2) WHO.. as we pointed out is in no good shape.
3) Nations like USA go to war whenever they want … and UN has no teeth to stop it..
maybe it will also get dissolved like League of Nations…. but hopefully not in such a violent way.

as for Kashmir:
To gain the moral high ground… India went ahead with that unilateral declaration… and only after Nehru reached India.. did he disclose the impossible terms and conditions… which of course neither side has the goodwill to enforce.

The UN is a very bad joke.

Yep, i’am sure the medical fraternity in the WHO are well aware of it. But still….

very rightly said… when it comes to politics… all reasoning, logic and science takes the backseat.
